Once you’ve decided that full-time freelancing is what you want to do, there are some things you need to do to make sure you’re getting off on the right foot. In this course, I’ll go over the most basic things you need to know to get your freelance business up and running.
In short, we’ll cover:
- Establishing your business entity
- Getting the necessary licenses and permits
- Dealing with taxes and insurance
- Learning best practices for handling business finances
We’ll also talk about getting your website online and officially hanging out your shingle.
I’d strongly urge you to carry out every suggested activity in this course before you start actually doing business. That said, if you’ve already been selling your services or products – don’t worry. While it’s ideal for both accounting and tax reasons to set up your business beforehand, it’s not too late to go back and do it now.
Note: Information in this course is geared specifically toward setting up a freelance business in the United States. While some principles apply broadly, others only address U.S.-based businesses.
